The old cordite factory is why there are no pubs near us. The gov't would only allow a very few pub licenses to keep the population that worked at the cordite factory from drinking too much. We are all still a very sober lot. ;-)
Gretna and Eastriggs are perfect examples of why purpose built towns never really work out.
