I wonder what happened to this idea then? Seems like a good one to me, they would be great on narrow household drives on busy main roads instead of backing out into busy traffic.
I know one and it's quite normal for everybody there. It's at a dead end road in Basle Switzerland and works automatically as soon as you drive onto the platform. Quite useful as you couldn't turn normally. But quite freaky when you use it for the first time I guess.
