Since having very little work on in the radio industry at the moment I decided to go back taxi driving full time until something else comes up so I`m off behind the wheel to spend unsociable hours making a living. My first post starts a new month so expect some good reading and hopefully Bob will continue with some posts as well.
So heres my first post (or rant)The wearing of seatbelts seems to be a bit of a gray area of law to some people. Passengers seem to think its the driver who will get done if they dont wear a seatbelt but they are wrong. The passenger is responsible for wearing a seatbelt and its them that could get an on the spot fixed penalty for it.
This week the number of passengers that don't wear seatbelts must be around 70% of the fares I picked up and what's worse is of those adults who got in the cab with children, they made no attempt whatsoever to fasten their kids in with the seatbelt.
Personally I wont drive off with children in the car until they are belted in securely and this week I asked one child to put a seatbelt on only to be told by his mother that the child didn't like seatbelts and he wasn't going to wear it and there was nothing I could do to make him.
OK maybe there was nothing I could do to make him but what did happen was that I terminated the journey before it started. I refused to take the fare. The passenger told me they would ring my office and complain about me. I told them to go ahead and do it. I never heard anything more of this and on checking with the management, no complaint was made and even if there was I know for a fact that the management would back me up on this.
Am I well within my right to insist that children travelling in my taxi are belted in securely? I think so. Let the sad pathetic mother complain. I don't care, I'm only doing my job
